Hi, I’m Ari Mason. I’m a Grammy-certified vocalist and viola da gamba player who works with composers for film, television, and video games. My vocal abilities range from the basic to the bizarre, including one of my biggest strengths (and most-used, by composers): improvisation! I also multitrack, harmonize, and I have a historical performance degree in viola da gamba from Oberlin Conservatory—I’m more than happy to play gamba on your scores, too. I record remotely from my 5’x6’x7’ professional, treated vocal isolation booth, and then I edit and EQ all tracks so they’re ready to drop right into your mix. Do you have a passage that needs vocals but you haven’t had time to write anything? Send it my way. I’ll ask you some questions and make it happen.

Like everyone else in Los Angeles, I’m a music producer, too. I’ve been producing equally as long as I’ve been singing. I can make replacement songs when the unlicensed track of your choosing is not available. My solo catalogue is six albums deep and all of it is available for licensing. I also have an album of renaissance motets with modern production.

Some of my unusual “skills” recently used on scores include: invented languages, Old Norse siren calls, creepy “ooOOooOos,” hockets, rhythmic breathing, chanting improvised Latin words (real liturgical Latin! Super authentic, don’t settle for the fake stuff), throat singing, every spectrum of hum, text-setting for choirs, and microtonal chanting.

Let’s do something together.
